Price Action
Read raw price: candlesticks, support and resistance, trends and market structure.
Reading a candlestick
Each candle shows the open, high, low and close for a period. The body shows where price opened and closed; the wicks show how far it travelled. Long wicks often signal rejection of a price level.
Support and resistance
Support is an area where buying has repeatedly stopped price falling; resistance is where selling has stopped it rising. Treat them as zones, not exact lines, and give more weight to levels visible on higher time frames.
Trends and ranges
An uptrend prints higher highs and higher lows; a downtrend prints lower highs and lower lows. When neither appears, the market is ranging. Identifying which state you are in decides which setups make sense.
Market structure
Swing highs and lows form the market's structure. A break above a prior swing high in an uptrend confirms continuation; failure to make a new high can be the first sign of a shift.
Combining it into a setup
A simple price action setup combines direction (trend), location (a key level) and a trigger (a rejection candle or break). Without all three, stay patient.
Key takeaways
- Levels are zones, not exact prices.
- Higher highs and higher lows define an uptrend.
- Direction + location + trigger = setup.
